Choosing an LED color

A welcoming, warm appearance for outdoor living spaces, paths and planting.

An amber option for wildlife-conscious projects. The right choice depends on the habitat and species you are designing around.

Color alone does not determine wildlife suitability. Direction, intensity, timing and habitat matter too.

The light, its use and its story

Where most planting lights throw in a single direction, the Umbel radiates evenly outward from a central point through four separate LEDs, spreading a wide, soft wash across everything around it. Set one into the middle of a bed and the whole planting is lit from within, rather than washed flatly from the edge.

It's the efficient choice for open areas and broad borders, covering ground that would otherwise take three or four directional fixtures - fewer fittings, fewer cable runs, and a more natural result.

An umbel is a flower head where every stalk springs from a single central point - cow parsley, fennel, angelica. The fixture is built the same way as the thing it's named for.

Every Hudson fixture takes its name from the British landscape after dark - its creatures, its plants, and the old country words for dusk.

Questions about Umbel

Which LED colors are available in the U.S.?
For the U.S. range, you can choose 2700K warm white or monochromatic amber. Select your preferred LED color when configuring the light.
Is this light FWC approved?
Technically speaking, none of the lights on the FWC approval list are approved any longer. FWC did their last approval in 2022 and state a clear 2 year validity period. It's impossible to get on the list now, as the FWC is short-staffed and haven't reopened certification. We do use the same LED chip as one of the older, originally approved lights on the FWC list.
